The Southern Interregional Defence Forces Command (COMFODI – South) was constituted on 1st May 2015 at the "Carmine Calò" Barracks, when the previous "Campania" Army Military Command became an Army Corps. Since 1st November 2015 at the dependencies of the Southern Interregional Defence Forces Command there are the Army Military Commands of "Molise", "Puglia", "Basilicata" and "Calabria" as well as the Document Centres of Caserta and Palermo, the polyclinic of Caserta, the guesthouses of Naples and Salerno, the Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers' clubs of Naples and Caserta, the Training Logistics Base and the Recreational Club for Defence Employees of Bacoli and the "Albricci" Military Stadium of Naples.
Since 28th December 2015 it is located in the headquarter of Salerno Palace, in Plebiscito Square that has already been the Southern Logistics Command.
The Southern Interregional Defence Forces Command performs the duties of the Army Military Command for the Campania region, coordinates the activities related to the Recruitment, the Completion Forces, the Promotion of the Recruitments and the Public Information. On the territory it looks for synergies with local Institution in order to provide better military services to citizens.
In its headquarter at the "C. Calò" Barracks in Corso Malta (80132 – Naples), the Southern Interregional Defence Forces Command has got an information office opened to the public from Tuesday to Friday, from 8.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m..
On 1st October 2016, the Southern Interregional Defence Forces Command changed its name into Southern Operational Forces Command (COMFOP Sud), passing at the dependencies of the Chief of General Staff of the Army.
