Golden Medal to the Military Valour

For three months the Paratroopers Regiment of the glorious "Folgore" Division has operated with valour in many offensive and defensive actions, stopping the impetuous advance of the enemy that was superior in terms of components and means. In the epic battle of El-Alamein, with no more provisions of water, food and ammunitions, it refused several calls to surrender. Through many episodes of altruism, it resisted imposing respect and admiration by the enemy and giving valour to the Italian Army. (Northern Africa, 22^nd July – 12^th October 1942, Battle of El-Alamein; 23^rd October – 6^th November 1942).

Decree of 5^th October 1994

The 186^th "Folgore" Paratroopers Regiment, included in the Italian Forces in Somalia, participated in the rescue operations in favour of the Somali population, with dedication and professionalism during the dangerous mission; it also showed great efficiency, courage and generosity in actions for searching weapons and operations against rebels and bandits. Involved in several fire conflicts, it always reacted with efficiency and determination, military valour, operational capability and relevant motivation. In spite of several losses in battle, it continued to carry out its duties in order to give the Somali people security and humanitarian help and honour to the Homeland. (Somalia, 27^th December 1992 – 8^th June 1993).

Silver Medal to the Army Valour
During the "Decisive Endeavour" Operation in Kosovo the Paratroopers Regiment, with glorious traditions of military virtues, faced courageously the crushes of 17^th and 18^th March 2004 on the Kosovan territory. The unit intervened to defend the Abbeys of Dakovica and Decane and the Serbian villages of Belo Polje, Bica and Grabac. The Paratroopers of the Regiment, without any fear for the violence of the rebels, reacted to the enemy assaults using weapons in order to guarantee the security of the religious people and the Serbian-Orthodox Churches. Great example of a unit that, with courage, sense of duty and solidarity, it contributed to give the Army and the Nation prestige on a multinational context.
