Stabilization and Reconstruction Management Senior Course (SRMSC)


The course is held in the premises of the IT Army – Comando per la Formazione e Scuola di Applicazione dell’Esercito and it is managed by the Director of the PCOSC. It draws on a unique military expertise coming from the experiences gained during the major current military operations and civilian missions, in particular the ones where the Italian Armed Forces are involved, together with academic excellences and numerous other sectors of the civilian world.

The aim of the course is:

  • to improve the preparation of the attendees in the field of Post Conflict Stabilization and Reconstruction operations;

  • to increase the planning and coordination capability among the agencies operating in a multinational context;

  • to deepen the concept of “Comprehensive Approach”, applying it to one “major case study”.

Classes are limited to 40 people. Fluent English required. The course takes place once a year (in November), it lasts 1 week (5 working days) and is open to Italian and foreign military and Police officers (rank: Col. and Gen.), to Italian and foreign Civilian Executives of the Ministries of Defence, to the personnel working in the International Organizations, NGOs, Universities, firms, as well as professionals interested in disciplines pertaining to Post Conflict activities.

Course structure

The course includes:

  • conferences and workshops held by high profile professors and military experts;

  • research workshops;

  • exchange of experiences on Stabilization and Reconstruction with foreign Centres of Excellence operating in the same field;

  • analysis of a “major case study”;

  • intensive use of case studies and feedbacks coming from crisis areas.
