The "Julia" Alpine Brigade is one of the Great Units of the Armed Force specialized for the fighting on mountain.
Constituted as 3rd Alpine Group in 1923, it assumed its current name in 1934. In 1939 it was employed in Albania where it remained until the outbreak of the Second World War. After having been sent to Russia, it came back in 1943. It was dissolved after the armistice to be reconstituted in 1949.
Composed of regiments with personnel in Fixed Conscription and in Permanent Service, the Brigade is the bearing structure of a Multinational Unit that has got also Slovenian and Hungarian Units.
Located in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto and Trentino Alto Adige, it has got a command unit, three regiments with basic weapons, an artillery regiment, an engineer regiment and a logistic regiment.
