It derives from the Objectives Acquisition Battalion constituted on 1st August 1960 in Vicenza and transformed into 12th Reconnaissance Artillery Group on 1st January 1961. On 1st September 1962 it was named 13th Objectives Acquisition Group organized in a Command, a command unit and the 1st Battery including a Paratroopers Section, with a light aircrafts component. It had the task of tactical surveillance and objectives acquisition.
Since 1st March 1963 the Group was moved to Montorio Veronese with the component Light Aviation in Boscomantico and in 1964 the Radio Controlled Aircrafts Section was added. In 1967 the Group had also AB-204B helicopters. Deployed in Verona in October 1969, since 1st September 1973 it was named 13th Reconnaissance and Objectives Acquisition Group.
After the reorganization of the Army, on 1st October 1975 it changed its name into 13th "Aquileia" Acquisition Group, including the aerial component, the radio controlled aircrafts battery and the objectives acquisition paratroopers battery. One year later the Light Aviation component included the 398th Light Aircrafts Squadron, the 598th Multirole Helicopters Squadron and a Light Aircrafts Maintenance Squadron. After the reorganization of the Light Aviation of the Army, since 29th November 1985 the Light Aviation component was dissolved. By decree of 16th December 1986 the Group received the War Flag.
After the 3rd "Aquileia" Missiles Brigade was dissolved, on 1st December 1991 the Group was included in the 3rd "Aquileia" Artillery Regiment which in turn included the 3rd "Volturno", the 9th "Rodrigo" and the 27th "Marche" Groups. When the Regiment was dissolved on 28th September 1992, the Group passed at the dependencies of the Artillery Command of the 5th Army Corps.
On the framework of the measures concerning the new structure of the Armed Force, on 31st July 1993 the Group ceded the Radio controlled Aircrafts Battery to the 41st "Cordenons" Specialists Group and made the paratroopers battery independent; on 30th September 1993 the Group was dissolved and on 10th November the Flag was lay down at the Memorial Monument of Vittoriano.
On 28th June 2005, on the framework of the measures for the completion of the RISTA EW Brigade, the group was reconstituted in Anzio as 13th Battalion.
