"Per aspra via ad aspra meta"
The 6th Pioneers Engineer Regiment inherited the traditions of the 6th Engineer Regiment and the 54th Pioneers Engineer Battalion of the "Grenadiers of Sardinia" Infantry Division. Constituted in Bologna in 1926, during the Second World War it had the function of Deposit. In fact it trained and mobilized many Units that showed their valour, particularly the 17th Engineer Mixed Battalion of the "Pavia" Division that fought gloriously in northern Africa deserving the Bronze Medal to the Military Valour. By contrast the Engineers of the Battalion operated with the "Grenadiers of Sardinia" Infantry Division sacrificing itself in a battle against the warriors of Slovenia and Croatia. The 6th Engineer and the 54th Battalion were dissolved as a consequence of the events determined by the armistice in September 1943.
In the postwar, the shield of the "Grenadiers of Sardinia" Brigade was given to the Great Unit that in 1950 was named "Engineer Company" for the "Grenadiers of Sardinia" Division. On 1st May 1952 the Company became divisional Pioneers Battalion, operating until the reorganization. On 1st January 1976 the Unit was transformed in 6th "Trasimeno" Pioneers Engineer Battalion, inheriting the War Flag and the traditions of the 6th Engineer Regiment. On 4th September 1993 the 6th Pioneers Engineer Battalion became a regiment taking the current name of 6th Pioneers Engineer Regiment that included the "Trasimeno" Battalion.
After a reorganization, on 1st December 1997 the 6th Pioneers Engineer Regiment passed at the dependencies of the Engineer Group Command of the Land Operational Forces of Udine. The 6th Pioneers Engineer Regiment has been the first Engineer unit to have troop volunteer personnel and it has been chosen as support regiment to the Command of the Rapid Reaction Forces (ARRC). It participated in all the peacekeeping operations of the Italian Army abroad since 1995 (Bosnia, Albania, Kosovo). Moreover the Engineers of the 6th Regiment have also carried out emergency interventions to rescue the national population in case of disasters: earthquake in Friuli, Irpinia, Campania, Lazio and Umbria-Marche; flooding in Piedmont and Sarno (Campania).
The War Flag of the Regiment is awarded with a Bronze Medal to the Civil Valour, given on 5th March 1999.
