The "Aosta" Mechanized Brigade is one of the Great Units of the Army for the "presence and surveillance" of the national territory.
Today its units have entered the shifts for the employment abroad. Constituted in 1831, it participated in the three wars of Independence, in the repression of brigandage and in the First and Second World War in which it manned Sicily where it has remained up to present days.
Led by a Brigadier General, it has got volunteer personnel.
The Brigade, located in Messina, is composed of a Command Unit, two Infantry regiments, a Bersaglieri regiment, a Cavalry regiment, an Artillery regiment and an Engineer regiment.
