It derives from the 2nd Alpine Group, constituted by law on 7th January 1923. On 11th March 1926 the 2nd Alpine Brigade was constituted including the 5th, the 6th and the 7th Alpine Regiments and the 2nd mountain Artillery. In October 1934 the Command Brigade assumed the name of High Alpine Command and in December the name of "Tridentino" with the number 2.
On 10th September 1927 the 2nd "Tridentina" Alpine Division was constituted including the 5th and the 6th Alpine Regiments and the 2nd Alpine Artillery Regiment. As part of the Alpine Army Corps of the Italian Army in Russia, it participated in the unfortunate campaign and in the difficult retreat during the winter 1942-1943.
Headed by General Reverberi, the Division was protagonist of the breaking throught the inlet of Nikolaiewka, a victorious crash that permitted the ARMIR survivors to return.
In September 1943, after the armistice, the Division was dissolved. On 1st May 1951 the formation of the "Tridentina" Alpine Brigade started in Bressanone (BZ), with the 6th Alpine and the 2nd mountain Artillery Regiments, a Pioneers Engineer Company, a Liaison Company and a Platoon Command.
On 1st September 1953 the 21st Posizion Alpines Group entered the Brigade. Since 16th January 1958 it had a Light Aircrafts Unit that would be dissolved on 22nd December 1975.
With the reorganization of the Army, on 1st October 1975 the unit was modified and included: a Command and Signals Unit, "Bassano" Alpine Battalion (heir of the 6th Regiment) and "Trento" Alpine Battalion (heir of the 11th Regiment), the "Val Brenta" Alpine Battalion, the "Vicenza" (heir of the 2nd Regiment) and "Asiago" mountain Artillery Groups, an Antitanks Company, a Pioneers Engineer Company and the Services Group dissolved on 29th February 1976 when it was substituted by the "Tridentina" Logistic Battalion.
In September 1986 the Pioneers Engineer Company became Sappers Engineer Company, in 1991 the "Asiago" Group was dissolved and the "Vicenza" mountain Artillery Group passed at the dependencies of the 4th Alpine Army Corps. After the "Orobica" Alpine Brigade was dissolved, on the framework of the reorganization of the Army, the Brigade included the "Bassano", "Morbegno" and "Edolo" Alpine Battalions, the "Bergamo" mountain Artillery Group, an Antitanks Company and the Logistic Battalion.
After the re-establishment of the regimental level, in 1992 the 5th Alpine Regiment was reconstituted followed by the 5th mountain Artillery Regiment, the 11th Alpine Regiment and the Antitanks Company.
In 1993 the Brigade included: Command and Tactical Supports Unit, the 5th, the 6th and the 11th Alpine Regiments, the 5th mountain Artillery Regiment, the "Edolo" Battalion and the "Tridentina" Logistic Battalion.
On 15th May 2001 the 5th mountain Artillery Regiment was dissolved followed by the "Julia" of the 5th Alpine Regiment, while the 6th Regiment became dependent on the Alpine Command as command of the training areas in Alto Adige.
After the dissolution of the Command Brigade, the name of the Great Unit passed to the Command Division.
