The operation was decided by the Government in consequence of the gratifying results of the "Sicilian Vespers" Operation that encourage the political representatives to repeat the experience in other regions at risk in the South; the tasks were similar and they aimed to control the territory employing the staff of the Police Forces involved in activities not actually judiciary or investigative.
About 1 350 soldiers a day were employed, set in two regiments that were organized in five sectors of tactical group (as a reinforced battalion).
The employment of the Army aimed to oppose the racquet by controlling the territoryand monitoring particular targets in the Calabrian Provinces, just like in the "Sicilian Vespers" Operation.
In terms of numbers, the operation can be summarized as follow:
- 2.147 checkpoints and road checks;
- 332 patrol activities;
- 57.935 vehicle checks;
- 75.461 identifications of people;
- 2.408 controls to buildings;
- 4.237 individual searches;
- 197 extra-urban sweeps.
