During the spring 1994 a conflict broke out between the two major ethnic groups (Tutsi and Hutu) in Ruanda. The clashed risked to involve the foreign citizens that were resident in the Country. After some consultations at an international level, the rescue operation "Silver Back" was launched. Italy participated in the operation with a contingent composed by men of the "Folgore" and the Raiders Divers Command "TeseoTesei" of the Navy as well as transport vehicles of the 46th Air Brigade. On 10th March 1994 our contingent landed at Kigali airport. In that way the Operation "Ippocampo Ruanda" started.
