The Chief of Defence Major General Vasko Gjurchinovski visiting UNIFIL mission

​The Chief of Defence (CHOD) of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Major General Vasko Gjurchinovski, came for the first time to South Lebanon, for a visit to UNIFIL mission.

Major General Stefano Del Col, Head of Mission and Force Commander, welcomed him at Naqoura Headquarters and, after an office call and the signature of the Honor Roll, updated the General on the operational situation of the mission.

Then, at Millevoi Headquarters in Shama, the CHOD of FYROM, welcomed by Brigadier General Diodato Abagnara, Commander of the Sector West Joint Task Force Lebanon (JTF-L), based on “Garibaldi” Bersaglieri Brigade, met JTF-L soldiers, and received the updates on the Sector activities and AOR situation.

In that occasion, General Gjurchinovski stressed the importance of the Mission and to what has been done by men and women of the Task Force, in a complex and difficult scenario in Lebanon, land in the middle of geo-political developments, heterogeneous and multifaceted. The role of UNIFIL, the CHOD said, is crucial and the constant action of UN Blue Berets, aimed at providing values of peace, transparency and impartiality, has positive resonance not only in the Mediterranean basin but also throughout the Middle Eastern area.

General Gjurchinovski, finally, expressed sincere words of thanks for the welcome given to the FYROM officers, come to Sector West just over a month, stressing that the Italian professionality and the natural inclination to welcome the newcomers, like in a big family, facilities integration and stimulates to do more and always better.
