The Commander of Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC-W), Brigadier General Enrico Barduani, met in recent days the new Governor of Herat Province, Sayed Abdul Wahid Qattali, a few days after his inauguration.
The meeting, organized for security reasons in a private area of Herat airport, as well as allowing a first direct contact between the two authorities, had the objective of deepening the knowledge on the main activities carried out by the respective institutions in the western area of the country and to evaluate possible areas of further collaboration.
During the meeting, held in an atmosphere of cordiality, the Commander of the TAAC-W and the Governor discussed extensively the security situation in the area of Herat and, more specifically, the consequences of the covid emergency that is heavily impacting on the social and economic fabric of the city.
Qattali also expressed the hope that, at a particular time like the present one, the coalition forces could increase support for the local population by cooperating with the international organizations present on the territory, as UNAMA, in the development of humanitarian assistance projects.
The TAAC-W, Italian-led NATO Command currently on base 132° Armoured Brigade "Ariete" in which operate men and women of the Italian Army, Italian Air Force, Italian Navy and Carabinieri, is responsible in the framework of the operation Resolute Support" of the western part of Afghanistan, which includes the provinces of Herat, Badghis, Farah and Ghor, for a territorial extension equal to the whole of Northern Italy and a population of about four million inhabitants.
It is composed of soldiers of 8 nations (Albania, Hungary, Lithuania, Romania, Slovenia, Ukraine, United States of America, in addition to Italy) operating with the aim of contributing to the training, assistance and advice to the Afghan Security Forces and Institutions, committed to creating adequate security and prosperity for the local population.
