Granatieri Brigade hands over the command of Operation “Leonte” to Folgore.

Brigade General Francesco Olla hands over command to Brigade General Rodolfo Sganga

The Italian Contingent, deployed in the UNIFIL mission, underwent last evening, at "Millevoi" compound of Shama in Lebanon, a transfer of command.

The Joint Task Force – Lebanon, until yesterday based on "Granatieri di Sardegna" Brigade and under the command of Brigade General Francesco Olla, is now based on "Folgore" Brigade under the orders of Brigade General Rodolfo Sganga, who assumed also responsibility of all Sector-West.

The ceremony was attended by UNIFIL Force Commander/Head of Mission Major General Michael Beary and Italian Joint Operations Headquarters (JOHQ) Deputy Commander Air Division General Nicola Lanza de Cristoforis, besides numerous civilian and military Lebanese authorities.

Units from Malaysian, finnish-irish, Ghanaian and South Korean subordinate battalions, and from Italian Contingent monouvre Unit (ITALBATT), Combat Support (Combat Support Battalion – CS Bn), Logistic (Combat and Service Support Battalion – CSS Bn), formed the multinational ceremony's line-up.

Since last April at present, Italian peacekeepers deployed in "Leonte XXII" Operation have carried out all the activities foreseen by the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, conducting more than 150 patrols per day along the Blue Line and within the Area of Operation, driving many training activities in favor of Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), enhancing important actions in support of local population through the CIMIC (Civil and Military Cooperation) function, with thousands of people assisted in medical care, hundreds of participants at educational courses and dozens of humanitarian project developed.
