The visit today in Kosovo means to the Chief of General Staff of the Italian Army, Lieutenant General Salvatore Farina, a return full of a huge emotional component in the places that saw him as the Commander of KFOR mission from 6 September 2013 to 3 September 2014.
The meeting with the Italian soldiers deployed in Kosovo was an opportunity to express his satisfaction for the work of men and women of the Army and Air Force, Navy and Carabinieri. “More Together”, just like the motto chosen by General Farina himself during his Command in this mission put it, in order to enhance the cooperation and the dialogue between all the operators of security and progress of Kosovo.
In the morning, General Farina was at Camp Film City – Priŝtina/Prishtinë, where he met Major General Salvatore Cuoci, Commander of the NATO mission KFOR, and the Italian personnel deployed at the KFOR headquarters.
The Chief of General Staff also met the President and the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi and Ramush Haradinaj, and Rustem Berisha and Major General Rrahman Rama, respectively minister and KSF (Kosovo Security Forces) Commander.
In the afternoon, General Farina greeted the Multinational Battle Group West personnel, a multinational unit led by Italy and comprised by Italian, Slovenian, Austrian and Moldovan, responsible for the west sector of Kosovo, in the base named Camp Villaggio Italia at Peć/Peja. Then he went to visit the Monastery of Visoki Dećani, with the KFOR Commander and the MNBG-W Commander, Colonel Ruggero Cucchini, where he had a short meeting with the Abbot, Father Sava Jankic.
NATO KFOR Operation, called “Joint Enterprise”, involves 4000 soldiers of 28 different countries; the Italian contingent consists of just over 500 soldiers of the Armed Forces, now deployed in different multinational units led by Italy - the Multinational Battle Group West (MNBG-W), the Multinational Specialized Unit (MSU) from Carabinieri, the Joint Regional Detachment – South East (JRD – SE) - as well as in a large number of positions of responsibility at the Headquarters of Priŝtina/Prishtinë.
