Renovated and reassessed rural areas and landscape damaged by the conflict against DAESH.

The ‘Praesidium’ Task Force guarantees security to the military and civil personnel in the area

Upon request of the Iraqi local authorities, Italian soldiers in mission in Iraq have contributed in reactivating the entries to the most important olive grove in the area of responsibility of the “Praesidium” Task Force.


In the framework of the redevelopment of the territory promoted by the Iraqi municipalities near the Mosul Dam aiming to restore and reassess economically the rural areas and the landscape damaged by the conflict against DAESH, for the first time the soldiers of the “Sassari” Brigade have operated using vehicles of the Engineer Corps of the Italian Army in order to move masses of terrain become as field fortifications used to defend a key post in the fight for the control of the area during the invasion by the Islamic State troops.


When the threat ended the site, that is near the most extended olive grove in the area, was abandoned by the regular troops and given back to the legitimate owners that have recently restarted to inhabit it and to resume the agricultural and production activities, thanks to the support of the Italian Army.


All interventions and works for the redevelopment of the territory have been preceded by a research program of war device and explosive traps positioned by the Engineer units of the “Praesidium” Task Force, at the request of local authorities.


In the framework of the “Inherent Resolve” Operation, the “Praesidium” Task Force, based on the 151st “Sassari” Infantry Regiment, is the Task Force dedicated to the protection of the Mosul Dam in coordination with the local security forces such as Counter Terrorism Service, National Security Service and Iraqi Police.


In addition to the defence of the dam, that is a strategic site for Iraq, the “Praesidium” Task Force guarantees the security of the military and civil personnel of USACE and the workers of the TREVI company employed in restoring activities of the infrastructure.
