Studying a framework agreement to plan and coordinate future interactions and information exchanges in the veterinary support sector.

Sharing information and experiences for the support to the military forces

Last week a delegation of the Veterinary Unit of the Army Logistic Command, composed by the Chief of the Unit Colonel Giovanni Rucco and the Chief of the Veterinary Office Colonel Luca Virgilio, went to the US Army Public Health Command Europe (PHCE) in Landstuhi (Germany), on the framework of the bilateral collaboration between the Italian Army and the US Army in order to define the possible cooperation in the sector of the veterinary support.

During the activity the delegation visited the Veterinary Medical Centre Europe in Kaiserslautern, a modern veterinary hospital for military dogs coming from different Operational Theatres, as well as the PHCE Diagnostic Laboratory, a laboratory at the cutting edge for the chemical and microbiological analysis of food, water and environment.

At the end of the visit, the Italian and American representatives wrote together a draft of the framework agreement that, after being approved, will permit to plan and coordinate future interactions and exchanges between the Italian Army and the US one concerning the clinical and veterinary surgery for the support to the military dogs, sharing information and experiences about the security of food but also performing joint activities.

The PHCE is included in the US Army Regional Health Command Europe with the task of giving veterinary and public health support to the American military forces in Europe, Africa and Middle East. In Italy it manages the activities of competence in the barracks of Vicenza, Aviano, Naples and Sigonella.
