The Italian contingent employed in the Lebanon mission and the Italian Taekwondo Federation concluded a project in favor of the children of the families of the fallen of the Lebanese Armed Forces.
A sporting project for peace among people
The Italian contingent, which is the main component of the Sector West of the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon, concluded a project of peace and solidarity, thanks to the contribution of the Italian Taekwondo Federation (FITA).
For some months, the Italian soldiers have started projects to approach the sport of taekwondo in favor of the children of the families of the fallen Lebanese Armed Forces, registered with the Association dedicated to the Martyr Lieutenant Colonel Sobhi Al Akoury, in order to raise awareness children to sport as a path of peace and solidarity among people.
The activity was carried out thanks to the work of the specialists of the Multinational CIMIC Group of Motta di Livenza (TV) who, together with the Tactical Cimic Team (TCT), guaranteed a continued presence to the territory and with the contribution of some military personnel registered with the FITA, qualified as technical teachers.
The national peacekeepers, currently coming mostly from the Aosta Brigade stationed in Messina, tightened a strong bond with the children of the association and supported the progressive learning of taekwondo, by accepting a specific request of the President of the Association, Mrs. Lea Akouryi.
The interactions also favored the consolidation of a relationship, the one with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), based on mutual trust and esteem. All this allowed to lead joint operational and training activities, in compliance with the mandate awarded by the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701/2006.
On the occasion of the closing ceremony of the project - carried out in the presence of the National Contingent Commander, Brigadier General Bruno Pisciotta and the representative of FITA, Francesco Lo Iacono, who came from Italy with some athletes to perform demonstrations - several technical clothing were donated and made available by a private donor, a well-known partner of the Italian Taekwondo Federation.
