The Chief of General Staff of the Army meets Italian soldiers deployed in Kosovo.

The Chief of General Staff of the Army, Lieutenant General Danilo Errico, in anticipation of his next succession, went to Kosovo to meet men and women of Italian Army deployed in KFOR mission, accompanied by the Military Ordinary of Italy H.E. Monsignor Santo Marcianò.
Welcomed in Pristina by Division General Salvatore Cuoci, KFOR Commander, after a general briefing of the current situation, in presence of the Ambassador of Italy in Kosovo, H.E. Piero Cristoforo Sardi, General Errico met at “Italy House” Italian personnel working in Pristina Compound, where there are multinational units Italian guided. He expressed his appreciation to them for sustained efforts in this delicate international mission, whose the Italian Command, in addition to being a great responsibility, must be a source of pride for the Army and Italians.
Afterwards the Chief of the Army reached “Villaggio Italia”, where the Multinational Battle Group West (MNBG-W) Commander, Colonel Ettore Gagliardi, welcomed him, and where he met the Abbot of the Monastery of Decane, Father Sava Janjic and the orthodox bishop of Raska-Prizren, Teodosije Sibalic, which renewed his gratitude for the protection from Italian soldiers of “Joint Enterprise” Mission, since 1999, to the monasteries of much of Kosovo, last of which Decane, secured directly by KFOR. The bishop Sibalic, for the huge contribution provided through protection, reconstruction of different monastery and holy places of the diocese of Raska and Prizren, awarded General Errico with the “Medal of Holy Emperor Constantine”, the highest commendation granted by the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Serb Church.
The meeting with the Chief of the Army and the Military Ordinary of Italy with the highest local religious authorities was a moment of conjunction between the representatives of the two churches, to which Dr. Emanuele Roncalli, great-grandson of Saint John XXIII Pope was present.
The Chief of the Army also met men and women of the Italian Contingent, based on 185th “Folgore” Artillery Paratroopers Regiment, expressing his satisfaction for results achieved and highlighting the appreciation of Kosovar Institutions and population for constant commitment.
KFOR operates in Kosovo in accordance with the United Nations Security Council resolution 1244 and contributes to maintain stability, security and movement freedom of the region. General Errico, during his career, participated in KFOR mission, to the command of “Pinerolo” Armoured Brigade, assuming the lead of the Italian-German Brigade deployed in Kosovo.
