On 27th May the 2017 edition of the multinational event called "International Day" took place at the "Ugo Mara" Barracks in Solbiate Olona, headquarters of the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps in Italy (NRDC-ITA).
The event aims to share the different cultures and traditions of the 13 Nations of NRDC-ITA, between the international personnel in service and the families and friends, but also to dedicate the day to the charity.
It also represented an opportunity for the 2,000 soldiers serving in the "Ugo Mara", their families and the participants to express concretely their support to the Local Health Service (ASST) - Valle Olona that dispenses medical specialist and hospital services for a person's health. In particular, thanks to the NIWIC (International Women's Club) of NRDC-ITA managed by the consorts and the women in service at the Command, it was possible to give a charity contribution for the needy minors: the fund-raising and part of the sponsor proceeds have been donated to enhance the pediatric wards of the ASST Local Hospital Network of Valle Olona to which the hospitals in Busto Arsizio, Saronno, Gallarate, Somma Lombardo and Angera belong.
In addition to Italy that leads the Command, Albania, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Slovenia, Spain, United States, Turkey and Hungary were present at the event with their stands promoting the local traditions and gastronomic culture. For the occasion, commemorative postcards have been realized and, thanks to a dedicated special postmark of Poste Italiane, they could be send directly from the "Ugo Mara" Barracks.
The "International Day" was animated with artistic events, music performance and different entertainment moments: particularly appreciated by the participants, the parade of period military vehicles, the "Saggio Ginnico" performed by the Bersaglieri Company of the Tactical and Logistic Support Regiment of NRDC-ITA (accompanied by the Concert of the Military Band of the 11th Bersaglieri Regiment with its traditional repertoire of marches and hymns) and the displaying of the techniques of the Military Combat Method (MCM) that is a specific training aiming to the full contact reaction capabilities. A suggestive fireworks show concluded the event where more than 3,500 people participated in.
