Last tranche of four previous donations that permitted to nurse about 1,500 patients a day.

The Deputy Director of the regional hospital in Herat, Dr. Ibrahim Basim, has received the donations in Camp Arena

The Italian Civil and Military Cooperation (CIMIC) of the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC-W), based on the Taurinense Alpine Brigade, has organized and carried out the donation of general medicines in favour of the regional hospital in Herat that is one of the few medical buildings supporting the Afghan population in western area.

The medicines have been donated by the non-profit Perigeo, an Italian non-governmental organization (NGO) that has been collaborating with CIMIC, to the deputy director of the regional hospital in Herat, Dr. Ibrahim Basim, at the TAAC-W headquarters of Camp Arena. It has been the final tranche of the four previous donations in the last four months, thanks to which more than 220 thousand of general medicines packages have been given to the medical districts in Herat.

During the donation Dr. Ibrahim Basim has thanked Italy for the ten-year support to its structure through important projects that permitted to nurse 1,500 patients a day. The Deputy Director has also remembered the medical assistance by the Italian contingent during the bloody night after the attack against the Jawadia mosque in Dehr Hebad (Herat) last August. In that situation the medical personnel of the Italian field hospital, immediately alerted, remained all night long and the next days to intervene upon request by the Afghan authorities to help them in managing the emergency, if necessary.

The profitable and continuous relationships with the Medical Department in Herat and the medical organization of the Afghan Army, begun by the Italian contingent during the years, are going on through collaborations aiming to the medical support in case of emergency but especially through continuous debates between Italian and local medical personnel. Moreover educational paths in favour of the military hospital personnel of the 207th Corps of the Afghan National Army (ANA), located in Camp Zafar, have been organized on the framework of the Training Advise and Assist; at present this task is entrusted to the advisors of the Taurinense Brigade in favour of the Afghan National Defence and Security Forces (ANDSF).

Thanks to the contribution by the operators of the Multinational CIMIC Group (multinational and joint forces unit of the Army) specialized in the civil military cooperation, the support to the population represents one of the activities flanked to the training and assistance to the Afghan Security Forces, main focus of the Resolute Support Mission.
