A BLS-D Course for families and teachers of local schools.

Spreading the “culture of the rescue” to make the places we live and work safer

On Saturday 13th May a new edition of the Basic Life Support-Defibrillation (BLS-D) course took place at the "Ugo Mara" Barraks, headquarters of the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Command in Italy.

This session of training has been organized for the Istituto Comprensivo Statale "Aldo Moro" and 20 teachers from nursery, elementary and middle school of the five school complexes in Solbiate Olona and Goria Maggiore have been admitted to it.

The need to train teachers has come out after the local Municipalities provided school buildings of the Istituto Comprensivo Statale "A.Moro" of Defibrillators; the course has given to teachers the necessary knowledge to use this Automated External Defibrillators (DAE) and so to perform the maneuvres in case of cardiac arrest (RCP), contributing to make school a safer place.

Colonel Michele Trico, Chief Med and Medical Advisor of NRDC-ITA, has launched this special session of the Course; after an initial presentation of the Command and its activities, he has remarked the aims and the organization of the course. This edition of the course has also been opened to the serviceperson's family members (both adults and teenagers) and external civil personnel in order to spread the "culture of first aid".

These courses are run by instructors from the medical Staff of NRDC-ITA that received their certification during a Basic Life Support-Defibrillation Instructors' Course organized in December 2015 at the "Ugo Mara" Barracks and conducted by personnel from the American Heart Association, an organization that is working on the reduction of the number of victims from heart disease since 1915. The medical team of the HQ has trained other people, with theoretical and practical activities, on the standardized and approved life-saving maneuvres including the use of the Automated External Defibrillators. The maneuvres have been simulated during the practical part of the course and they permit to provide a promptly help people in need waiting for the advanced rescue.
