In 1934, by Decree of 28th June, the constitution of the historical and cultural Institute of the Engineer Army was ratified: the two previous cultural organisms were fused together in one Institute that had its own location, in Lungotevere della Vittoria.
At the beginning of 1939 the first rooms were occupied and the material transported. Unfortunately, because of the war, the building was not completed in the finishes; it was then hit by structural instabilities for the nature of the abutments and the excessive construction speed.
In May 1944 General Stefano Degiani became the Director; he tried to approve the new statute of the Institute and the regulations that still discipline the activities. He was substituted by General Tirelli in 1953 that, in 28 years of activity, restored the characteristics realized by General Borgatti. Today the Institute depends on the Ministry of Defence through the Engineer School.
